Motorcycle Notes
A small kolong-kolong (k-k) is really what I’m looking for. A utility truck, sorta. Not big. No canopy. Not for long distances. Something to putt around in. Like Dennis and James in their golf carts. And errands locally - Abrigo, Ladro, MV Hardware, etc.
Let’s learn about the major bikes here in PH. From what I’ve seen there are several Rusi models, the Honda TMX, and Kawasaki Barako. Lots of different models, from 90cc to 175.
| Feature | Honda TMX 155 | Kawasaki Barako | Rusi TC175 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Horsepower | 9.6 (125), 11.0 (155) | 12.75 hp | 13.0 hp |
| Seat Height | 771-792 mm | 775 mm | 740 mm |
| Wheelbase | 1,235-1,290 mm | 1250 mm | 1280 mm |
| Weight | 108 kg | 132 kg | 125 kg |
| Front Tire Size | 2.50-18 | 3.00-17 | 2.75 x 17 |
| Rear Tire Size | 2.75-18 | 3.00-17 | 3.00-17 |
| Price | 50,000, 70,000 | 86,000 | 48,000 |
| HP to Weight | 9, 9.8 | 9.7 | 10.4 |
| Dual R shocks standard |
Power-wise, the Honda TMX 155 appears to be the strongest. (Best HP to weight ratio.) It’s a better value, too. And lighter, which may affect durability, but I’m not building a tank. The lighter, the better. I need to push it backwards from time to time.
Any of these bikes would make a good base machine. If a good deal comes up, I’ll look at it. Timing - I will wait until Celso has his money for the kubo.
A new TC175 costs less than a used Barako. The Macho 175 lists for under ₱50k.
Some kind of ‘tractor seat’ is needed for the bike. I don’t fit on the TMX very well. When I sit towards the rear, it hurts my crotch. I’m always being shoved forward. The front of my pants jam-up. Some highway pegs might help with this problem.
List of Mods
- Tractor Seat with parcel rack behind
- Tachometer (The Rusi does not come with a tach, although there is space for one in the instrument cluster. Add-on / outboard tachs are available for ₱300-500. Perhaps these could be fitted inside the Rusi housing.)
- Front pegs so I can extend my legs
- Handlebars made to fit
- Harley light cluster up front. Main plus two smaller below and outside the main light
- Mudflaps, front and rear
- Small cargo kolong-kolong
- Extra lights on the k-k
- Removeable seat on the k-k
- No roof or overhead protection on bike or k-k

TC-175 is available in all-black. Painted motor, starter housing, transmission, etc. Looks good and may hold up better than the gold colored engines.

Could possibly get them to make the fenders.
